Extreemly Rare Gulha Family Mallard Hen, Marblehead and Carrol Twp, Ohio ca. 1880
This is the only known hollow Gulha family bird known to exist. Paint is original and very nice considering it is over 100 years old. This is a true documented Ohio decoy here. Some wear to the sides, no cracks ro breaks. Old tie line marks in the paint on body and around the neck. These birds were found by a great granddaughter in the family's barn. She brough these birds to the Crane Creek show several years back. This birds was the only hollow one in the collection, the rest were solid. Bottom of decoy has hay that has fused into the paint. I have x-rays of this bird will be made available to the buyer. The most interesting part of this decoy is that the neck of this bird is inlet which is unusual for Ohio. Ohio birds are really taking off, here is your chance to own a super rare, documented one.

William T. Enright Competition Mallard Hen Head, Toledo, Ohio Ca. 1950's
Bill Enright may not be known by many folks outside of Ohio but he is an important part of Ohio decoy history. For example, Bill Enright won 1st place at the 1948 World Decoy Carving Competition where he beat the Ward Brothers. Bill was also represented in several other carving competitions throughout the years. His decoys are sought after by Ohio collectors today. He is well known for his cork birds: Pintails, Blackducks, etc.. This competition head was most likely made for a cork body. A similar example of a calling head bird by Enright can be found in
Fish and Fowl Decoys of the Great Lakes by Donna Tonelli, on the top of page 21 along with other Enright examples. This head has very fine detailed paint and is in great condition with 2 small chips on both sides of the lower bill. Still a really great and rare example.
